Review
“I have had the pleasure of reading Bee‘s “A Soap Recipe Book of Light & Shadow.” From the moment of finding it on my doorstep I knew I was holding a piece of magic. It radiates from the cover. You run your hand across it and you understand the love, dedication, passion, and trust she is imparting by sharing this with you. It was at that moment I understood I was her apprentice. That she was giving to me the skill sets I would need to become a soap witch myself. To make my bubble lab capable of creating soap dough she will be proud of (I hope). Because if I fail it shall not be her fault. Not that I think she’d ever let one of us fail. Far more than the usual “cookbook” this is knowledge shared with a lot of room so I can lean heavily on all the recipes, wisdom, and organizational magic she has included while making it my own. And there is in abundance recipes and ways to organize your craft giving your muse time to enchant. Thank you Bee for sharing your passion and your blood, sweat, and tears. For anyone who has followed Bee and her creations and dreamed of one day making your own today is that day.”

I bought both books. I wanted to make good soap dough because what I was making was sticky sh*t. I couldn't do anything with it. I read the first book, Vol.1. I thought I didn't want to use Tallow; I don't know why exactly. Well, I bought Vol. II. First off, these books are so much more than a soap dough book. The books are magical. You'll learn how to make proper soap dough, but you will feel like the book is speaking to you. You will get paperwork that you can copy for your soap business. Like a sheet of cards, the name of soap, date made, with what ingredients ect...A sheet to put all of your suppliers together, a sheet to show how you made your soap, when it will be ready for sale, Internet Companies and your log in information. A list of all of the oils, butters and waxes, whether they are hard or soft, will they make a hard bar of soap or a squishy soap. Beautiful drawings.
I enjoyed both books. I made a batch of soap using tallow and saved some for soap dough. It is the best soap I have made to date and my soap dough turned out to be the best, not sticky anywhere. I went out and bought 2 11-pound buckets of Tallow. It will go into all my soap, soap dough, unless someone orders their soap without it. Unless you already know everything there is to know about soap making, then you will gain by buying and reading these books and you will be glad you did.

It is quite obvious how much Bee pours herself into her writing. This is well written, and loaded with wonderful tips and tricks. I've tried making soap dough with my own recipes, and sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't. There's no guesswork with Bee's recipes. I know I'm going to get wonderful soap dough each time. I can't say enough good things about this book.
I really love the aesthetics and writing of Bee's books. The instructions are easy to understand. She inspires all readers to find the whimsy and creative side within themselves, and never talks down on any level of maker. If you are a seasoned maker, you may find much of it review, but her notes always bear repeating. You can tell that a lot goes into presenting the information so that you have the how and why things are formulated the way they are. I think I'm only going to be able to use one recipe in the book, however. I'm one of those obnoxious people who don't use animal, palm or nut oils. I'm still very happy about my purchase, and am inspired to take the information and play around with recipes to make my own incarnations of soap dough. Thank you, Bee, for doing the hard work ahead of time.
Hi Bee, I just bought my first ebook from you. The pages were crazily beautiful that I was swooning over everything. I haven’t tried the recipes yet, but the design itself already makes every penny spent worthwhile. It’s such an eye candy! It’s now in my wishlist to get the real paper book soon. Thank you for putting so much effort in books. It’s truly a blessing to have found you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Truly, from my heart, thank you!
I wanted to start making soap dough embellishments but I didn't want to spend 6-12 months trying to perfect my own recipe. I was also searching for a good, reliable recipe that wouldn't cause me to change my current ingredient list on my soap by adding several different oils - this book definitely came through! Bee is the master of soap dough, I am so grateful to her for sharing her knowledge. The deep sense of security I feel from knowing that she has tested and approved these recipes and they will not fail me cannot be expressed.
It's also a very beautifully done book, I bought it to use in digital format thinking I would simply print a recipe or two... but after looking through it I just *had* to have it in physical form. Thankfully I already had some very good printing paper on hand.
It's a wonderful combination of facts, imagination, and whimsy. I laid in my bed, head propped up, and read it like a storybook. She covers everything I feel like I need in order to make soap dough (or soap, the recipes could be used for both) and explains the difference between regular soap vs. soap dough handling, storage, and gives lots of tips for a successful outcome.
This is more than a simple instruction manual or recipe book - it invokes feeling, imagination, and dreams.
