Magical Remedies from the Sisters' Grimoire
As the seasons shift, many of you have written asking for practical solutions to everyday challenges. Before sharing some of our most requested workings, I feel compelled to address some misconceptions that have been circulating in modern practice.
On Magical Intentions: Setting the Record Straight
There is a difference between a spell, a hex and a curse. A hex has heat, intention to stop, protect or cause a line in the etheric sand. A spell is an enchantment, much like therapy of all kinds, a nudge or encouragement. For example, a Spell Of Forgetting is a good example - softer and more gentle to lean in the direction of forgetting, and still loose control, the receiver of the spell needs to be willing to forget. A curse has more endurance and is carried through time, often has darker intentions. The black and white magic is misleading and leads to polarity. It’s easily understood, life is made up of choices, with mercurial intentions.
Energy has no inherent morality - it's our intention and application that creates the outcome. Rather than fretting over labels and moral judgments, focus on clarity of purpose. Being pure of heart married with a clear intention is not a moral compass, but a direction. With that in mind, here are workings that can be adapted to your specific needs:
Protective Barrier Tea
When energetic boundaries need reinforcement, this blend serves multiple purposes depending on your intention:
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon dried lemon balm
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon dried lavender buds
- Pinch of sea salt
- Honey (optional)
Preparation:
- Combine herbs in a warmed teapot
- Pour just-boiled water over herbs
- Cover and steep for 7 minutes exactly
- Strain into your favorite mug
- Add honey if desired, stirring clockwise three times
For protection, visualize a golden light forming around you. For hexing unwanted energies, stir counterclockwise and visualize a barrier of thorns. The difference isn't in the tea - it's in you.
Threshold Working
Call it a blessing, hex, or spell - the purpose is to establish boundaries:
Materials:
- 3 bay leaves
- Small dish of salt water
- White candle
- Dried rosemary
Process:
- At sunrise, light the white candle near your main entrance
- Dip each bay leaf in salt water
- Place one leaf above your main entrance door (hidden if necessary)
- Place one leaf near your bedroom doorway
- Keep one leaf in your wallet or purse
- Sprinkle a small amount of rosemary across each threshold
As you place each leaf, speak firmly: "This space is sacred, this space is mine. What enters here brings peace divine." If your intention carries more heat, you might add: "Trespassers beware the threshold crossed, your ill intent returns with cost."
Sleep Restoration Sachet
When restless thoughts prevent proper sleep cycles:
Ingredients:
- Small cotton pouch (blue or purple preferred)
- 2 tablespoons dried chamomile
- 1 tablespoon dried mugwort
- 3 small pieces of amethyst or clear quartz
- 1 teaspoon dried orange peel
- 3 drops lavender essential oil
Creation:
- Combine all dried ingredients in the pouch
- Add stones
- Drop essential oil onto the mixture
- Tie closed with natural string or thread
- Place under your pillow or beside your bed
This could be considered a spell of forgetting - temporarily releasing the grip of consciousness to allow deeper healing. The intent is gentle, but no less powerful for its softness.
Wisdom from the Archives
Remember that what others label as "dark" may simply be what they fear or don't understand. After, most don’t want to hear truth, but something the soothes and pleases.
The Sisters have always known that boundaries are not walls but filters, allowing us to choose what energies we welcome and which we transform. The strongest magic comes not from worrying about moral categories but from clear intention, consistent practice, and being unflinchingly aware.
The most powerful practitioners I've known could hex with a smile and heal with a glare - it wasn't the action but the clarity behind it that determined its effectiveness.
Until next time, may your workings be true to your intent, whatever names others might give them.
